Latest EnsoData FDA 510(k) Clearance Enables AI-Powered Sleep Diagnosis Using Pulse Oximetry Devices
EnsoData’s 2024 FDA clearance provides more opportunities for clinicians to effectively reach an undiagnosed patient population by enabling AI-driven analysis using the photoplethysmogram (PPG) signals recorded by pulse oximeters. By lowering the barrier for patients to receive an accurate sleep test to more widely available pulse ox devices, clinicians can expedite the diagnostic process and provide patients with answers to their health problems more quickly.

The prospective trial findings published at SLEEP 2024 showed that the AI system’s performance in calculating AHI and TST is not significantly influenced by the subjects’ skin pigmentation, indicating no systematic bias based on skin color in the AI system’s OSA detection and sleep staging.
The Partner Announcement that Generated the Most Buzz
EnsoData and Nonin, a leader in pulse oximetry devices, announced a partnership to address the underserved and undiagnosed sleep apnea patient population with a collaborative Type IV testing approach. The partnership will combine the FDA-cleared EnsoSleep PPG software as a medical device (SaMD) algorithm with Nonin’s WristOx2® Model 3150 reusable wrist-worn device, offering sleep labs an affordable solution to test for sleep apnea at home.
