EnsoData Receives 510(k) Clearance of Latest Sleep Center Tools to Enhance Patient Care and Experience; Expands into Pediatrics, Adds to Home Testing Capabilities, Simplifies Lives of Sleep Clinicians Across the Country, including in Wisconsin
MADISON, Wis. – July 14, 2021 – EnsoData, the Madison-based healthcare artificial intelligence (AI) company dedicated to improving the lives of sleep professionals and their patients, today announces its FDA 510(k) clearance of new capabilities and enhancements to its product EnsoSleep, a leading AI-assisted sleep scoring solution. This new clearance expands the capabilities of the EnsoSleep product substantially, empowering sleep care providers in today’s ever-evolving healthcare environment.
EnsoData’s founders set out in 2015 to harness the power of sleep data to make patient care more accurate, efficient, and affordable. Initially cleared in 2017, EnsoSleep supports over 400 clinics around the country, including clinics in LaCrosse, Boscobel, Beloit, Appleton, Cambridge, Belleville, and Hebron.
“The enhancements made to EnsoSleep over the past few years will help to further expand patient access to quality care at home and improve the depth and breadth of sleep data available today,” said Chris Fernandez, the co-founder and CEO of EnsoData and a UW-Madison alumnus. “We prioritized interoperability in sleep care, as we roll out an interoperable viewer and continue to provide clinical support for most devices on the market.”
EnsoSleep’s FDA 510(k) clearance includes major updates to EnsoSleep, including:
- Sleep scoring and staging for pediatrics (ages 13 and up): AI-enabled scoring cleared for pediatric populations above 13. It will help clinicians diagnose sleep apnea in adolescent and teen patients, which if left untreated, has been associated with poor cognitive and school performance, as well as psychiatric and behavioral problems
- EnsoViewer: EnsoSleep now provides an interoperable PSG/HSAT data viewing, editing, and reporting tool. This platform is optimized for the user experience and is contained fully inside the web browser, meaning device data is no longer tethered to the bedside
- EnsoTST: EnsoSleep’s calculation of total sleep time (TST), which is powered by single channel photoplethysmogram (PPG) data, as PPG is among the most ubiquitous, continuously recorded vitals in HSAT devices. The addition of TST will improve clinician confidence in the diagnoses stemming from home sleep testing
- New event types for chronic respiratory and cardiac patients: The new update introduces additional sleep apnea subtyping and detection capabilities, including Cheyne-Stokes respiration, periodic breathing episodes, respiratory rate, and more
“We believe in the ability of artificial intelligence to analyze waveform data and produce tangible, real-world benefits for clinicians. We’re proud to partner with centers in Wisconsin, and it is great to see how we can impact people in our own state and community,” said Sam Rusk, another co-founder and UW-Madison alumnus. “We aim to make sleep health better with the support of sleep clinics like our current partners in Wisconsin.”
